Am I a Candidate for Dentures?

Did you know that 36 million Americans don’t have teeth? If you’re missing a tooth or many teeth, or maybe even all of them, you aren’t alone.

At Advanced Implant Dentistry & MedSpa of North Shore, Dr. Jeon and Dr. Monto, and the rest of our team understand the seriousness of your oral health.

Losing your teeth can affect the quality of your life in many ways. We know you need proper, efficient support in your mouth to help with chewing and speaking and to feel confident about your smile, as well. That’s why we recommend you come in and meet with us for a consultation whether you’ve lost your teeth because off an accident, trauma, or poor oral hygiene.

We can restore the functionality of your mouth with dentures, but first, we want you to know some facts about dentures.

An overview of dentures

A denture serves as a removable device for your missing teeth to give you full functionality in your mouth. They also fill in the areas where you’ve lost tissue that would normally surround your teeth.

Depending on the number of teeth you’re missing and the health of your gums, we provide full, partial, and implant-retained dentures.

For a full denture, we first perform a procedure to remove all of your teeth and unhealthy gum tissue. Complete dentures include conventional dentures, which can’t be placed in your mouth for about 8-12 weeks until your gums fully heal. Immediate dentures are made before your teeth removal, so we can place them immediately after your procedure.

For a partial denture, we affix a bridge to your natural teeth that holds artificial teeth, filling the gap. If you have dental implants, we can provide implant-retained dentures, which you can remove easily.

Before deciding if dentures are the best choice for you, we need to evaluate the condition of your oral health.

How to determine if you’re a candidate for dentures

When you visit our team, we first consult with you to find out what your oral health needs might be. We also determine if you have gum disease or if it’s in its developing stages.

Dentures adhere to your gums and the arch of your jaw bone to stay in place, so you need to have a prominent amount of healthy gum tissue, and your jaw bone needs to be strong, too.

If you’re a candidate for dentures, we talk to you about your options. We have extensive denture services that include denture care, soft denture liners, and denture exam maintenance, just to name a few. We make sure you’re in good hands when it comes to your oral health.
